1. Fire pit rocks, or lava rock, are the most natural-looking option. These chunks of stone resemble volcanic rock or pumice, with an uneven texture and neutral color. Putting lava rock in your fire pit puts all the focus on the flames.

You'll also get to pick chunk size, color, and maybe opacity, all of which change the look of your fireplace.
