The Story
Bromic is an Australian outdoor heating specialist that engineered around a specific problem the mainstream patio-heater category ignored: wind. What's the difference between Platinum and Tungsten?
Same Smart-Heat infrared emitter and the same wind-resistance rating. Platinum is the premium tier — heavier stainless housing, dual-input regulator on the gas models, marine-grade rated for coastal installs. Tungsten is the value tier — same functional heater at a lower price point, ideal when you're speccing multiple units across a large patio and the cost per zone matters. Do I need a gas fitter or electrician to install?
Gas models — yes, a licensed gas fitter needs to run the natural-gas or propane line to the heater and confirm the pressure regulator matches. Electric models — a licensed electrician needs to install the dedicated 240V or 208V circuit. Bromic ships mounting hardware for ceiling, wall, pole, and pergola-post configurations but the fuel/power connection is a permitted trade in most jurisdictions.
Can Bromic heaters install under a covered patio or pergola?
Yes — that's actually the design intent. Bromic's directed-infrared beam works best when there's a ceiling or overhead structure to reflect the heat back down into the seating area. Minimum clearances vary by model (see the installation manual), but the platform is purpose-built for covered outdoor rooms, screened porches, and pergolas.
What's the difference between gas and electric?
Gas (natural or propane) — higher BTU output, best for larger open patios where you need real heat volume. Requires a gas line. Electric (Platinum Smart-Heat Electric or Eclipse Smart-Heat Electric) — lower operating cost per hour, no combustion by-products, safe under covered/enclosed spaces where gas venting would be a code issue. Also lets you retrofit heating into a space without running a gas line. Electric is 240V or 208V hard-wired.
